Who We Are

What is Techboomers.com?

Techboomers.com is a free educational website that teaches older adults and other inexperienced Internet users with basic computer skills about websites that can help improve their quality of life.

Techboomers provides three main services:

  1. Techboomers introduces users to trusted new websites and Internet-based applications through an easy-to-navigate directory and targeted emails based on their interests.
  2. Techboomers provides free video and article tutorials in a language suited to those who may not be the most tech-savvy. These tutorials teach the easiest and most efficient ways to use the websites, as well as how these websites can improve one's quality of life.
  3. Techboomers keeps its users informed of important news and information about their favourite products via on-site alerts and periodic email newsletters.

Our Purpose

Techboomers aims to improve the quality of life for older adults and other inexperienced technology users by empowering them to learn how to use popular and trusted websites and Internet-based applications.

Mission Statement

Techboomers will build and maintain the largest online library of quality, up-to-date information and tutorials regarding the most popular and useful Internet-based products available. The educational content will always be free and fully accessible without needing to create an account. Beyond basic training, Techboomers will work with its partner services and users to empower older adults to become Internet experts within their personal networks in such a way that builds both their connections and their confidence with using technology.

Meet the Team

Steve Black, Founder and CEO

Steve Black is a serial entrepreneur who came up with the idea for Techboomers while looking for an entrepreneurial opportunity that brought purpose into his life. One day, while helping his parents learn how to use Facebook, he realized there were no reliable websites that have quality up-to-date tutorials to help people like his parents learn on their own... And the vision for Techboomers was born.

Steve specializes in Search Engine Optimization and other online marketing strategies. Outside of work, he enjoys running with his chocolate lab, Samson, and playing just about any kind of board game.

Kristine Culp, Social Media Manager

Kristine enjoys building online communities around lifelong learning through her role at Techboomers. As the driving force behind Techboomers' social media presence, she has been instrumental in growing Techboomers' followings through Facebook and Twitter by not only alerting people to new courses and content, but also directing people to other useful tech training resources.

She has a professional background in marketing, writing, and editing, as well as degrees in journalism and French from the University of Western Ontario and the University of Waterloo, respectively. She's a fan of libraries, community theatre, thrift shops, and live music.

Corbin Hartwick, Editor

Corbin is responsible for making sure that all of the lessons on Techboomers are as informative and easy-to-understand as possible. A graduate of the Communications and New Media program at McMaster University, Corbin was eager to join the Techboomers team in order to apply his skills in research, writing, and technology.

When not writing for the Techboomers team, Corbin is a video game enthusiast. He also enjoys watching sports, cartoons, and stand-up comedy. When the weather's nice, you can find him riding his bike along the trails of his hometown.

Jessica

Jessica Dawson, Video Creator and Editor

Jessica is responsible for creating instructional and informational videos to accompany lessons on Techboomers. She is a recent graduate of the Bachelor of Arts program at the University of Toronto, with majors in English and Linguistics. Jessica is happy to be part of the Techboomers team, and to be helping others learn more about technology.

In her free time, Jessica runs her own YouTube channel, which features makeup and fashion-related videos. She also enjoys reading, photography, and watching reality TV shows.

Kayleigh

Kayleigh Fleury, Content Writer

Kayleigh is responsible for writing the text lessons and guides on Techboomers, as well as making sure that our tutorials are as clear, informative, and up-to- date as they can be. With a Master’s degree in both English and History, Kayleigh couldn't wait to apply her skills in research, writing, and teaching to the Techboomers website.

When she’s not writing for Techboomers, Kayleigh is often found going for long walks, playing her guitar, trying out a new video game, or lounging in the park with a good book.

Abby Stokes, Brand Ambassador and Digital Literacy Strategist

Abby is one of the foremost authorities in North America on teaching computer skills to older adults and other newcomers to digital technology. In-person courses, web seminars, visits to libraries and senior centers, consulting with technology training groups... if there's a way to teach technology, Abby has done it. She's even author of a best-selling digital technology guidebook called Is This Thing On?: A Friendly Guide to Everything Digital for Newbies, Technophobes, and the Kicking & Screaming.

Abby is a firm believer that there is a way for anyone to learn technology... they just have to muster the courage to find it! We are honored to have her as part of the Techboomers team, letting people know about us at her sessions and events.

Linda_black

Linda Black, Tester Extraordinaire

Linda was the main inspiration behind Techboomers. Her desire to learn digital technology was what prompted her son, Steve, to create a website that could teach her and others like her how to use computers and the Internet at their own pace. Now, she provides valuable feedback, insight, and perspective on the courses we offer here at Techboomers. It's thanks to her that we're able to write our tutorials in a language that our users can relate to, regardless of how well they understand digital technology.
