If you want to learn more about Zoom Meeting IDs, we’ll help you do so.

What is covered in this article

Before we learn how to find a Meeting ID, let’s dive into what it is. If you’re still brand new to Zoom, make sure to start with our Zoom quick start guide.

What is a Zoom Meeting ID?

A Zoom Meeting ID is a 10 to 11 digit number associated with a meeting, whether instant or scheduled in advance. There are four different types of IDs:

  • Instant meeting ID – Created for a spontaneous meeting.
  • Non-recurring meeting ID – Created for a one-time meeting.
  • Recurring meeting ID – Created for a meeting that takes place daily, weekly, or monthly.
  • Personal Meeting ID – A unique ID created for each Zoom user.

What is a Zoom Personal Meeting ID?

A Zoom Personal Meeting ID (PMI) is a unique group of digits assigned to every Zoom user to allow for easy access to their own personal meeting room. Your PMI can be used to start instant meetings or schedule meetings in the future. Unless changed or removed, your PMI will be permanently yours to use whenever and however you please.

How to customize your Zoom PMI

  1. Go to https://zoom.us/signin and log into your account.

    Sign in screen

  2. Click on Profile.

    Profile link on home page

  3. In the “Personal Meeting ID” section, click on Edit.

  4. Enter a 10-digit ID of your choice in the box highlighted in the screenshot below.

  5. Click the checkbox labeled “Use Personal Meeting ID for Instant Meetings” to mark it (if it isn’t already marked) if you want to enable the use of your PMI for instant meetings.

  6. Click on Save Changes when you’re done.

While customizing your PMI is easy enough, you must meet the following criteria:

  • You must have a paid plan license (i.e. Pro-tier subscription or higher).
  • The first digit of your PMI must be a number from 2-9 (i.e. it cannot be 0 or 1).
  • Your PMI cannot use a prefix that commonly belongs to toll-free numbers. This includes 200, 300, 400, 500, 508, 600, 660, 700, 800, 803, 804, 807, 808, 809, 850, 855, 866, 877, 887, 888, and 900.
  • Your PMI cannot repeat groupings of 3 digits (e.g. 234 234 234x).
  • Your PMI cannot include synchronized groupings of 3 digits (e.g. 222 333 444x).
  • Your PMI cannot use the same digit more than 7 times (e.g. 222 x22 222x).
  • Your PMI cannot use the same digit 5 or more times in a row (e.g. 555 55x xxxx).
  • Your PMI cannot include numbers in sequential order (e.g. x123456789).
  • You cannot use a Meeting ID that already exists.

What is a Zoom personal link?

A Zoom personal link is a URL assigned to your personal meeting room. Your Zoom personal link can be shared with invitees to allow them to easily access your personal meeting room. The URL will often contain your PMI; however, those with paid plans — like a Pro-tier license or higher — can choose to customize it.

How to customize your Zoom personal link

  1. Go to https://zoom.us/signin and log into your account.

Sign in page on the web

  2. Click on Profile.

Profile link located in the navigation panel

  3. In the “Personal Link” section, click Customize.

  4. Enter the link name you would like to use in the box provided, and then click the Save Changes button.

Like a custom Personal Meeting ID, your personal link must follow certain rules:

  • It must be between 5 and 40 characters long.
  • It must start with a letter.
  • It can only contain letters (i.e. “a” through “z”), numbers (i.e. 0 through 9), and periods (i.e. “.”).
  • It cannot be already in use by any other Zoom user, even if you have a Vanity URL for your account.

PRO TIP

It is also not advisable to use a common name as the name for your personal meeting link, like “john” or “mary”. This can be easily guessed, and so is not very secure. Zoom may even reject it outright, in some cases.

How and when do Zoom Meeting IDs expire?

Zoom meeting IDs expire in order to ensure that unused IDs are available for future use. With the exception of PMIs, IDs will no longer be functional after a specific amount of time of non-usage, depending on the type of Meeting ID. These include:

  • Instant meeting IDs – Immediately after the meeting’s end
  • Non-recurring meeting IDs – 30 days after the scheduled meeting
  • Recurring meeting IDs – After 1 year of non-use
